Jewelry & Watch Insurance

Agreed-value coverage for engagement rings, luxury watches, loose diamonds, pearls, and heirloom jewelry — including mysterious disappearance and international travel.

Coverage scope

What We Cover

From daily-wear engagement rings to estate jewelry kept in a vault — specialist policies cover the full range of fine jewelry and timepieces.

Engagement Rings & Diamond Jewelry

Solitaires, halos, three-stone settings, eternity bands — agreed-value coverage with no ACV deduction at claim time, worldwide.

Loose Diamonds & Gemstones

Unmounted diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and other precious stones — scheduled individually with GIA or AGS grading data on file.

Luxury & Vintage Watches

Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and vintage or collectable timepieces — individually scheduled with worldwide transit coverage for service and authentication.

Pearls & Pearl Jewelry

Strands, earrings, brooches, and modern pearl pieces — covered on a scheduled agreed-value basis with breakage and mysterious disappearance included.

Vintage & Antique Jewelry

Art Deco, Edwardian, Victorian, and Georgian pieces — insured at appraised agreed value with coverage for fragile settings and period-appropriate materials.

Heirloom & Estate Pieces

Family heirlooms and inherited estate jewelry scheduled at current market appraisal value, with coverage for sentimental and one-of-a-kind items that cannot be replaced in kind.

Bridal Sets & Wedding Bands

Engagement ring and wedding band pairs covered as a matched set, with partial-loss provisions that recognize the value of the complete bridal set.

Fine Fashion Jewelry

High-value designer pieces from Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari, Tiffany, and similar houses — scheduled individually with agreed value reflecting retail or secondary market pricing.

Policy features

Key Coverage Features

Specialist jewelry policies go well beyond what a homeowners rider or blanket floater provides.

Agreed Value

The scheduled amount is the claim settlement — no actual cash value depreciation, no deductions for condition or market fluctuations. What you insure is what you receive.

Worldwide Coverage

Coverage follows you at home, traveling internationally, and while stored in a hotel safe. No geographic restrictions — your ring is covered whether you're in New York or Naples.

Mysterious Disappearance

If a stone falls out unnoticed or a piece goes missing without a known cause, you're covered. This is one of the most critical distinctions from standard homeowners coverage, which specifically excludes it.

Sizing & Prong Failure

Coverage for loss of a stone resulting from ring sizing, worn prongs, or other setting failures — a common real-world loss scenario that many basic policies do not address.

Zero Deductible

$0 deductible options are available from most carriers on our panel, meaning a claim for a $6,000 stone pays $6,000 — not $6,000 minus a $500 or $1,000 deductible.

New Acquisitions

Newly purchased pieces are automatically covered for 30–60 days (varies by carrier) while you arrange scheduling — no gap in coverage between purchase and endorsement.

Pairs & Sets

Partial loss of a matched set — losing one earring from a pair, for example — is covered at the full depreciated set value, not the standalone value of the missing piece alone.

Underwriting requirements

What Carriers Look For

Most jewelry policies are straightforward to place. Here's what the underwriting process typically requires.

GIA or AGS Certificate For graded diamonds and colored stones, a GIA or AGS certificate is the preferred documentation. Non-certified pieces require a current independent appraisal.
Recent Appraisal Most carriers want an appraisal from within the past 2–3 years for high-value items. Older appraisals may understate current market values; we can help coordinate updated valuations.
Safe or Vault for High-Value Items For pieces valued above $25,000–$50,000, many carriers require secure storage when not being worn — a UL-listed home safe or bank safe deposit box. Requirements vary by carrier and total value.
Wear Frequency Carriers will ask whether an item is worn daily or occasionally. Daily-wear items are priced accordingly — this affects the rate, not the availability of coverage.
Prior Coverage History Carriers may ask about prior personal articles coverage, prior claims, and whether items are currently insured. A clean history generally improves available pricing.
Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Does homeowners insurance cover my engagement ring?

Standard homeowners policies typically sub-limit jewelry to $1,500–$2,500 total — far below the value of most engagement rings. They also exclude mysterious disappearance (a stone falling out unnoticed). A personal articles floater or standalone jewelry policy provides agreed-value, worldwide coverage with no sub-limits and no mysterious disappearance exclusion.

What about jewelry while traveling internationally?

Yes — specialist jewelry policies cover worldwide travel. The coverage follows you to Europe, Asia, or anywhere else. Some carriers require you to declare high-value items in a safe while in hotel rooms; we'll walk you through any storage requirements specific to your carrier and total insured value.

Is a UL-rated safe required for high-value jewelry?

For pieces valued above $25,000–$50,000, many carriers require secure storage when not being worn — a UL-listed home safe or a bank safe deposit box. This requirement varies by carrier and value; we'll identify which markets work best for your situation and ensure you understand any storage conditions before you bind coverage.

Can I insure a watch collection?

Absolutely. Luxury and vintage watch collections are a specialty of several carriers on our panel, including Markel and Chubb. Pieces can be individually scheduled with agreed-value coverage, with worldwide transit protection for pieces sent for service, authentication, or auction consignment.
